I had a fabulous time with my parents this weekend. They took a break from their busy schedule to just have fun. One of their leisure activities is going to theme parks, not for the rides, but the scenery, architecture, and design of the made up environments.
It was interesting hanging out with my parents for an entire day, surrounded by other parents with children much younger than myself. The entire time I was recalling my own childhood and how my parents have tried so hard to accomodate my needs. I took pity on the parents carrying multiple bags containing little toys and gadgets for their kids, plus video cameras, extra sweaters, etc. My parents carried their cell phones and camera. Surrounded by crying children and frantic parents, my parents and I discussed my financial situation. I told them that I want to slowly take over my finances. I have been fortunate to have helpful folks still paying for a large majority of my expenses. But given that I have my own income, it makes sense that I take over everything. Why I never thought of this before is beyond me. It could be that I'm just use to how things have always been. Anyway, I have savings, I have made a couple good investments. It's about time I start being on my own.
